If you thought people were silly about boating, boats, and all the rest of that… stand back.  People are REALLY silly when it comes to money.

…and that’s what I want to talk about here.  I get the feeling that when we talk about money we're all talking past each other, we're talking about different things- which makes a certain sort of sense, because money means some different things to different people and a lot of these things have an emotional charge attached to them.  ...so in order to approach the issue of money and wealth, we've got to get all that other stuff out in the open.  That's what this site is going to be about for a while- it's gonna be about the way we relate to money, and ultimately about the way we relate to everything we think is important.

Over the last several years I've been studying money, how the stock market works, strategies for making money using real estate, home businesses, options strategies, that sort of thing... and while all of this information is changing my life, I've also discovered that many people have a hard time talking about it- they become irritable, maybe sleepy or intensely bored, maybe argumentative or judgmental- when what's really going on is that they're talking about something they've got conflated with money and don't see that the two are separable.

What I've discovered, almost by accident, is that in my quest to learn more about money, what I really discovered was more about myself.  In the space between me and this idea called 'money' is a whole world called 'my relationship to money', and it's remarkable how much I've discovered about myself in that space. This started out academic, but it's turned metaphysical, spiritual even- it's turned into an alchemy of sorts- but I'm not turning base metals into gold in the literal sense- like many alchemists, I've discovered that the process itself is enlightening... and that the result is that I'm happier with what I've got, and more open to opportunities that may come my way.

The purpose of this website is to help me sort out my thoughts about money and finance.  It may also help you become more clear on your goals, become more clear on your values, and to help you more consciously align your goals and actions with your values and with reality.  We're after happiness here, we want lives of purpose and abundance and clarity above all- and my purpose here is to help to explode a lot of the ideas that may be standing between you and your goals.  If you're reading this page, it's because you've decided that you want more, that you want freedom and abundance.  I want that too.  What I've discovered along the way is that much of what has been holding me back from my own success wasn't that I wasn't smart enough, it was that many of my beliefs were not supporting my goals- I was defeating myself, and it was frustrating.

Money is an abstraction, a fiction used to make value liquid.  It’s a tool, nothing more.  This may seem like a simple idea, but as a culture we’re depressingly conflicted about it.  We all want more money, but we can’t seem to get enough of it.  We want to be rich, or at least richer than we are, but we resent rich people and accuse them of having their priorities out of whack.  We would take a million dollars in a second, but we call rich people who’ve got that million ‘greedy’.  We say things like ‘money isn’t everything’ when we know for sure that not having it is a serious problem.  We declare piously that ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’ when arguably 'lack of money' is.  We’re a culture who grew up learning that the great thing about living here is that anyone can become successful, anybody can embody the American Dream… but less than 2 percent are ever financially free.  I'm learning to be free, and I'm excited.  So excited, in fact, that I want to share.

I’m still a student of this process and doubt I’ll ever have all the answers.  I won’t pretend I do.  I’m not financially free yet, but I’ve come a long way- I’ve managed to double my income twice in the last 5 years and I’m on my way to doing it again soon.  I haven’t put together this series of pages in order to blow my own horn- I’ve done it because I really wish that someone had shown me all of this stuff years ago.  I’ve put this here because this information has changed my life and my outlook for the better.  I’ve put this here because I want you to have it.  These articles aren't intended to give you advice on your finances- there are better places to go for that- rather, these articles are intended to help you focus on the inner game, the metaphysics of your financial self, and to help you choose an easier path.  If you have comments, questions, suggestions, or opinions, I eagerly welcome them- send me mail.
